SAFE & SOUND COUNSELLING

Welcome to Safe & Sound Counselling

My name is Kim and I am a Person-centred Counsellor as well as working in my private practice, I also work with clients as a volunteer counsellor with Counselling Care Skye & Lochalsh and as an Associate Counsellor with UHI Inverness College. I am a registered member of both COSCA and the BACP. As a person centred counsellor, this means I work within the principles of providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where I can support you while you talk about any worries, stresses or anxieties that are affecting your day-to-day life.

I do not offer my own opinions or judge, but instead, I strive to understand your individual situation and experiences with empathic warmth and caring. No one knows you as you know yourself, you are your own expert and my role is to be your caring and supportive companion through your explorations, reflections, and discoveries, as I help and support you as you move towards new personal growth and any changes you wish to make.

Counselling can be a new and at times daunting experience, with some clients speaking their truth or feeling understood for the very first time. Self-exploration and the discoveries within, can be an unsettling process at times and so I offer the beautiful sounds and vibrations of the Peter Hess Sound Massage Therapy Bowls as part of my counselling sessions.

Please note this is an optional element of the sessions and counselling is of course available without this element if you so wish.

The Sounds and vibrations produced by these specially engineered therapy-grade singing bowls help to invoke feelings of peace and relaxation, which can help facilitate a calmer, more fulfilling, and productive session. The bowls being used for around 15mins at the start and end of the session to promote a calm and safe space to begin sessions and also to help ground clients before they leave their session.

The therapy which originates from Germany is used in many countries as a complement to other treatments and in Germany itself, is used by nurses and medical professionals as an addition to their patient care. It is used in situations such as post-op care and recovery, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, care and support of the elderly, health support to those living with chronic illness, and within the mental health profession itself.

I am very proud to be able to offer this wonderful therapy to my counselling clients, as the only practitioner of Peter Hess Sound Massage in the Highland and Islands, with Safe & Sound Counselling being the only counselling practice offering this additional therapeutic element to its client work.

I also work with couples helping you both to foster a more beneficial and productive form of communication with each other and part of this is using the principles of Non-Violent Communication. I support each couple by offering a safe and equal space for both of you to feel heard and understood, with my focus in couples counselling sessions, being on your relationship and helping both of you offer and then hopefully, reach your desired outcomes moving forward. This form of counselling can also be used with family members who feel their relationship with their family member has become difficult or more distant and both would like a space to try and resolve this.

Let us work together in a safe space that is completely yours to get to the answers that are within you.

How will it all work?

After initially contacting me with your inquiry, I will contact you via your preferred method and arrange for a free introductory conversation, so we can decide together if we will continue forward to work together. It is very important to me that all clients feel comfortable and that I am the right person for them to work with and I encourage and welcome open and honest discussions where clients feel they can say whatever they feel, and this includes whether they would like to move from our introductory conversation to beginning to work together in sessions.

These are done at intervals of the client’s choosing and can be weekly, fortnightly, or even monthly. This is to ensure the client’s specific needs and wishes are met, as I understand and respect each person’s individuality and that needs often vary and can change over time.

I also offer a choice of how sessions happen. This includes Face to Face sessions, or also the options of Online video sessions via Zoom, or telephone sessions for those who may not be local, may not have transport, or have mobility or health issues that mean they would prefer these methods of working together.

How many sessions are offered?

Each client is unique in their needs and situation, with some clients wanting to come for a more long-term period of sessions, while others may want to come for a shorter period of time. To accommodate this, I use regular check-ins with my clients to see where they feel they are and what they want to do moving forward. Each client’s wishes are heard and fully respected.

How Much Does a session cost?

Each 1.5-hour session is £60 and this can be paid ahead of the session, via bank transfer ahead of the session or by cash or card at the time of the session.

Invoices/Receipts can be provided for your financial records.

Couples sessions are £60 per session (1st session can be up to 1.5 hrs).
